Tea for Two / Cha para Dois OFFICIAL LAUNCH

The Anglo-Portuguese Society is proud to sponsor Tea for Two / Chá para Dois, a beautifully curated architectural exhibition opening at Mackintosh Queen’s Cross, Glasgow on Thursday 11 September 2025 at 7pm.

The launch will feature the premiere screening of a filmed interview with Álvaro Siza Vieira, the Pritzker Prize-winning architect, reflecting on the influence of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the design of his iconic Boa Nova Tea House, and his wider practice. The screening will be followed by a first look at the exhibition, drinks, and informal networking.

The exhibition explores the cultural and architectural dialogue between Scotland and Portugal, placing Mackintosh’s Willow Tearooms in conversation with Siza’s Boa Nova Tea House. It reflects on design, place, ritual, and shared heritage — from Queen Catherine of Braganza’s introduction of tea to Britain, to its reinterpretation through modern architectural lenses.

Set within Mackintosh’s only built church, the exhibition offers a unique space to consider architecture as a social and cultural act.

We’re also thrilled that acclaimed author Isabel Stilwell will join us on 18th September, presenting her bestselling novel on Queen Catherine of Braganza, the Portuguese royal who helped turn tea into a British tradition.

Our thanks to Graeme Nicholls and all involved for bringing this cultural dialogue to life with such care and creativity. We look forward to welcoming many of you in Glasgow this September!
