About the Reception

We are delighted to invite members and guests to the Anglo-Portuguese Society Christmas Reception 2026, taking place at the Aga Khan Centre in London.

Stars Across the Sea, our Christmas Reception, brings together APS members, dignitaries, friends and guests to celebrate the year and the enduring relationship between Portugal and the United Kingdom.

Beyond celebrating Christmas together, the evening is an opportunity to bring together individuals, organisations and communities whose work contributes to furthering Portugal's interests and presence in the United Kingdom and strengthening the connections between our two countries.

Since its foundation in 1938, the Anglo-Portuguese Society has sought to create connections across culture, education, diplomacy, business and civil society. Bringing these communities together provides an opportunity not only to renew friendships, but also to create new relationships, conversations and opportunities for future collaboration.

The Aga Khan Centre

We are particularly grateful to the Aga Khan Centre for its generous support of the Anglo-Portuguese Society and for making this exceptional space available for our Christmas Reception.

The Centre provides a particularly meaningful setting for an evening dedicated to bringing communities together. Its commitment to education, knowledge, cultural exchange and greater understanding between people and cultures resonates closely with the Society's own mission of strengthening the connections between Portugal and the United Kingdom.

There is also a significant connection with Portugal. The Aga Khan and the Ismaili community have developed deep and longstanding ties with the country. Lisbon is home to the Ismaili Centre, Lisbon, and Portugal has become an important centre for the institutions of the Ismaili Imamat.

We are therefore especially pleased to hold this year's Reception at the Aga Khan Centre and grateful for its support in enabling the Society to bring together members, dignitaries, friends and representatives of the wider Anglo-Portuguese community in such a distinctive setting.

Guided Tour

As part of the evening, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the Aga Khan Centre, including its distinctive gardens.

The Centre's gardens, courtyards and terraces draw inspiration from the diversity of Islamic garden traditions and have been conceived as contemporary spaces for reflection, encounter and exchange.

The tour offers an opportunity to discover not only the architecture and gardens of the Centre, but also the ideas that underpin them — knowledge, openness, cultural exchange and the bringing together of communities.

Christmas Raffle – Supporting A Causa da Criança

Celebrating together also gives us an opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

This year's Christmas Reception will include a fundraising raffle in support of Associação de Proteção à Infância e Juventude – A Causa da Criança, a Portuguese social solidarity organisation dedicated to protecting and supporting children and young people at risk.

The Anglo-Portuguese Society has supported A Causa da Criança through its apadrinhamento programme since 2023, and we are delighted to continue that relationship through our Christmas fundraising.

There will be a selection of raffle prizes, including a Grahams Six Grapes Reserve Port 3 Litre bottle, with further prizes to be announced.
